The wild dragon of the Brecca Gorge

Tour description

On Saturday, we take the cable car from Schwarzsee up to Riggisalp and hike along the high-level trail towards Jaunpass before branching off to Breccaschlund. The Breccaschlund is a karst landscape rich in legends that was formed during the last ice age. It is considered a primeval landscape and is known for its diverse alpine flora, gnarled trees such as the sycamore maple and extensive dry stone walls as a habitat for reptiles. We eat and spend the night in a rustic alpine hut, which is still used as a cheese dairy in summer.
On Sunday, we hike along the flank of the Breccaschlund to the Col du Chamois. From here, we mostly follow the ridge: German-speaking Fribourg to the right, French-speaking Switzerland to the left. After a gentle up and down, we finally reach the extensive upland moor around Grattavache, from where we descend again towards Schwarzsee. In warm weather, we can also swim here and return along the quiet right bank to the starting point or the bus stop back to Fribourg.

The hike is technically easy, has no steep sections and requires a medium level of fitness. The scenery is very varied and will tickle your adventurous spirit. Suitable for children and young people too.
