2 DAYS UP AND IN THE HEAVEN HOLE
Tour description
Day 1: The Säntisberg trail from Schwägalp winds steeply up to the "Musfalle" rock station. Over steps and footholds we reach the traditional mountain inn Tierwies. Climb further to the large cart field. Between funnels and crevasses to the foot of the slope below the Girensattel and to the ridge itself. Continue past the Blauschneelücke and up the rock staircase, the so-called "Himmelsleiter", to the Säntis summit. We have enough time to discover and experience the summit with its magnificent panoramic view including the interactive adventure world (fascinating facts about wind and weather, snow and ice). We will stay in the new imposing ***S Hotel Säntis incl. wellness area (Finnish sauna, bio sauna, steam bath, whirlpool, experience showers, relaxation room) on the Schwägalp.
Day 2: At the Schwägalp pass we climb briefly and hike along soft forest paths to the Chräzeren pass, the former crossing between Appenzellerland and Toggenburg. Passing under rocky ledges, we reach the still young Necker. A short climb brings us to Alp Neuwald, then we descend over pastures to Ofenloch. Enormous rock faces and deeply eroded rock pans form a primeval, wild landscape. We climb up to the alp Ellbogen. Further on, the path leads us through the also very rough Rappenloch down to the Seebensäge. There, at the end of the hike, the post bus brings us back to Schwägalp, where we end our two hiking days with refreshments.
