Leghorn paradise and a great view peak
Tour description
The Engadine is too far for a day trip to marvel at stone pines. They are also to be found (somewhat hidden) on a sun-exposed slope high above Wildhaus. This makes them the northernmost in the Alps. And on the way to the summit, hundreds of pines line the path. The Gulmen is an event, also because the path to it with its moss-covered stones and roots is reminiscent of an enchanted landscape from the films of fairies and trolls. It involves almost 1000 metres of altitude gain from Wildhaus, but this seems entertaining precisely because of the charming path. Romantic coniferous forests alternate with gentle meadows. While in the Alpstein there is often still plenty of snow until June, the Gulmen on sunny slopes is usually already ideal for mountain hiking at this time of year. And the quality of the view during the rest at the summit invites you to linger and marvel.
