In the Appenzell hinterland we hike on two days in the beautiful Alpstein surroundings from Urnäsch to Schwägalp and further over the Kronberg to Appenzell.

IN FOUR DAYS ON THE JURA HIGH TRAIL

The Jura High Route is a classic among national long-distance routes. The scenic long-distance tour through two linguistic regions, hiking at a comfortable altitude, offers an extensive panorama of the Alps, the Black Forest and the Vosges mountains, as well as a variety of landscapes and cultural areas. Along the way you will find craggy rocks and deep caves, river springs and lakes with no visible outflow, quiet forests and wide pastures.

TWO DAYS UP AND IN THE HEAVEN HOLE

Our mountain hike takes us from Schwägalp along the north face to Tierwies via the “ladder to heaven” to Säntis, the highest peak in the Alpstein. On the second day, we explore the Ofenloch Gorge, an impressive canyon known as the “Grand Canyon of Eastern Switzerland”, and enjoy breathtaking views of various valleys.

The Alpstein is very popular with hikers and those seeking relaxation. With its three mountain lakes and three mountain ranges in a small area, the Alpstein offers a very varied and idyllic landscape. Depending on the season and location, an impressive world of flowers and plants unfolds there. With a bit of luck, you can spot native wildlife such as the ibex and golden eagle. During our interesting two-day hike, two gaps, a saddle, a plateau, two lakes, an alpine garden, a geological hiking trail and five mountain inns await us.

IN THREE DAYS FROM APPENZELL TO AMDEN

After a short tour of the pretty town of Appenzell, we hike along the Alpstein to Schwägalp with fantastic views. There we spend the night at the foot of the mighty Säntis. A spectacular canyon and great views into various valleys inspire us on the second day. Bus and chair lift take us to Sellamatt. On the third day our path leads us at the foot of the Churfirsten to a mysterious cave. In Arvenbüel above Amden we end our hiking days with refreshments.
