Unobstructed view of the partial solar eclipse

Tour description

For the partial solar eclipse on 12 August, the difference within Switzerland is minimal – what matters more than the specific location is having an unobstructed view of the western horizon, as the Sun will already be very low at the time of maximum eclipse. That is where we are heading.

In German-speaking Switzerland, the moon will cover approximately 90.6 per cent of the sun at its peak. This peak will be reached between 8.15 pm and 8.20 pm, just under 20 minutes before sunset. It’s set to be a fantastic display of colours.

Even with 90 per cent coverage, looking directly at the sun is dangerous. That is why all participants will receive certified solar eclipse glasses and instructions on how to observe or photograph the phenomenon without damaging their eyes.

If you want to experience the total solar eclipse, you will need to leave Switzerland. The path of totality, lasting just under two minutes, runs across northern Spain, parts of Iceland and Greenland.
