The silver treasure in the Klöntalersee

Tour description

This spring hike is a great start to the hiking season and opens up an additional enchanted world of legends just outside Zurich.

We take the Postbus up to the Klöntalersee and follow its right bank to Vorauen. We take our first break at Bärentritt, where the Russians are said to have sunk their war chest:

On the other side of the lake, a strong dairyman tried to stop a French scouting party with a log. When the soldiers cut off his arm in the fight, a black Alpine bull rushed to the shepherd's aid like a monster. But that's another legend and explains how the Klöntalersee disappeared - and we'll tell that story later, when we climb up through the cursed Timmerwald forest to Richisau...

In 2022, Baeschlin Verlag republished the collected legends of the Glarus region, with magical photographs by Urs Bolz. The book "Glarner Sagen" can be ordered directly from the Baeschlin Verlag shop for CHF 29.80.
