The Greina hike - a swiss classic with a difference
Tour description
The Greina plateau is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Switzerland and the Terri hut is fully booked months in advance. This three-day variant begins at the very back of Val Lumnezia. After the Diesrut pass, we keep left and hike to the centre of the Greina on the first day. We switch to the other side of the valley and experience this unique landscape in a wide loop: a great success for Swiss landscape conservation, as the Greina was supposed to be flooded 50 years ago...
On the second day, we cross the entire plain, past cotton grass meadows, meandering streams and small islands of water to the Passo della Greina. Shortly afterwards, our path branches off and leads up to Fuorcla Sura da Lavaz on a blue and white marked route through boulders and snowfields. On the other side, we cross a wide firn field, which later turns into a scree slope and requires a sure footing. At the end of the day, the path leads up another 300 metres to the Medelserhütte.
On Sunday we climb up again to Fuorcla dalla Buora. From there we hike along the ridge, high above the Lumanier pass road, down to Curaglia.
