The fantastic Lai da Rims - a barren lunar landscape
Tour description
This impressive autumn hike in the Lower Engadine takes you to a remote region on the border with Italy. The Lai da Rims plateau is rarely travelled, although for me it is one of the most beautiful lake districts in Switzerland.
From San Jon, the path climbs steadily up the Val Lischana to the hut, which is clearly visible on a rocky ridge above the valley. This is where the rocky mountain landscape that surrounds us on the second day begins. Around 20 small lakes are scattered across the rocky lunar landscape on the wide plateau. Already dried up in autumn, they are reminiscent of sandy moon craters in the middle of the scree. We hike in a wide loop through this lonely landscape and finally descend steeply and somewhat exposed through the Fora da l'Aua to S-charl.
This stage can be modified into a challenging T4 hike if you are interested. Instead of a direct descent, continue along the ridge and hike over three 3,000-metre peaks: Piz d'Immez, Piz Christana and Piz Rims to Fuorcla Sesvenna, always with a view over the Lai da Rims.
