ON THE JURA HIGHLAND TRAIL
Tour description
Day 1: Balsthal – Weissenstein. The reward for the challenging ascent to the Höllchöpfli is an impressive high-altitude hike through dense forests and open pastures. Passing fascinating geological formations and numerous cozy mountain inns, we reach the Weissenstein, Solothurn’s breathtaking vantage point. We’ll spend the night and have dinner at the 4* Hotel Weissenstein on Solothurn’s local mountain at 1,284 meters above sea level. (*Option to hike for only 2 days starting from Weissenstein. A cable car runs between Oberdorf SO (valley station) and Weissenstein. Meeting point: Friday, September 25, 2026, around 5:00 p.m. at the Hotel Weissenstein)
Day 2: Weissenstein – Frinvillier. From the “roof gable” of the canton of Solothurn, we enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Jura Arc, the Mittelland, and the Alps. The trail winds through dense forests and characteristic Jura pastures. The first third of the route is also a fascinating “Planet Trail.” At the Montagne de Romont, we reach the language border, a unique highlight of this route. We’ll spend the night and have dinner at the Auberge des Gorges in Frinvillier, with the option of an evening stroll through the picturesque Taubenloch Gorge.
Day 3: Frinvillier – Chasseral. From the deep Schüsstal valley all the way up to the summit of the Bernese Jura, the trail follows a gentle yet steady ascent to the Chasseral, visible from afar. There, an impressive panorama awaits us, with the lakes of the Mittelland in the distance particularly delighting the eye. At our destination, the Hotel Chasseral on the 1,606-meter-high summit ridge of Chasseral, we’ll wrap up our three-day hike with a well-deserved refreshment. (**Option: A bus runs between Frinvillier (train station) and Les Prés-d’Orvin (Bellevue), allowing you to save approximately 450 meters of elevation gain on the third day. This option is available upon request, depending on the situation)
