Magnificent italian snowshoe dreams at Easter
Tour description
I discovered this area last winter during a week-long ski touring trip and was completely blown away. Firstly, because of the friendly Greco family who run Rif. Federico and spoil their guests with excellent food, Italian hospitality and comforts such as showers and a Cimbali coffee machine. Secondly, because the high valleys around Rifugio Federico are unusually gentle, making this secluded winter landscape perfect for easy and moderate snowshoe tours.
As Easter 2027 is very early, passionate snowshoe enthusiasts have the chance to end the winter season with this dream tour. The snow-sure area south of Livigno can only be reached by car or mountain taxi and therefore has few day visitors.
Located at over 2,100 metres and surrounded by 3,000-metre peaks, we will undertake magnificent tours into the side valleys. In safe snow conditions, we can climb passes or smaller peaks with views of the Trentino Alps; in fog or stormy weather, we will stick to the extensive valley floors around the hut.
On the last day, if conditions are good, we will return to Switzerland via the Pass da Val Viola and descend via the Saoseo hut to the Bernina Pass road.

Arrival
Only by public transport, as the start and finish locations are far away.
Registration deadline & payment
14 March 2027 due to hut reservations over Easter; payment immediately after booking using the QR code on the booking confirmation.
Equipment
Snow boots and warm mountain boots, avalanche transceiver set with shovel & probe can be rented from me. Equipment list & detailed programme after registration.
