Fürstensteig & Alpspitz – Autumn magic in Vorarlberg

Tour description

A special autumn experience takes us to the nearby Principality of Liechtenstein. The legendary Fürstensteig, one of the most famous trails in the Rätikon, is one of the most exciting trails you can hike in this country – full of contrasts, deep views and emotions. 

We start our circular tour from the panoramic Alp Gaflei (1,400 m). Initially across meadows and through mountain pines, then high above Vaduz and Schaan with breathtaking views. The trail is exposed in places, but well secured in the rock with wire ropes and railings: a path that requires sure-footedness and a head for heights, but at the same time offers incomparable moments.

Our extra: we take in the summit of the Alpspitz – a vantage point in a class of its own, from which the view sweeps far across the valleys of the Ländle and to the Three Sisters. The path continues to the Bargälla saddle, where the whole mountain world of the country opens up. With a bit of luck, we may even spot chamois, and on the way back to the starting point, we pass practically the geographical centre of Liechtenstein.

The tour is quite short but rich in impressions: spectacular ridges, quiet forests, wide Alpine slopes. Entertaining, rich in contrasts and unforgettable – an autumn excursion to the Ländle that counts intensity rather than kilometres.

Easily accessible by public transport or car – same start and end point. Bus connection from Vaduz, post office at 9.15 a.m. arriving in Gaflei, clinic at 9.47 a.m.
