From «Little Tibet» to the Valley of the Deer

Tour description

This impressive autumn hike takes you into the remote border region between the Lower Engadine and Italy. The Lai da Rims plateau is rarely visited, despite being one of the most beautiful lake districts. The ridge walk across three 3,000-metre peaks is reminiscent of Tibet, the Val Mingèr is a paradise for deer, and the Val Plavna remains an insider’s tip.

Plateau with 20 lakes
San Jon, the path climbs steadily up the Val Lischana to the hut, which sits prominently on a rocky ridge above the valley. This is where the stony mountain landscape begins, which surrounds us on the second day. We hike through this lonely lunar landscape and descend gently into Italy to the comfortable Sesvenna Hut.

The third day is a triple treat
Tibetan landscapes, prayer flags and three 3'000-metre peaks. We cross the ridge from Fuorcla Sesvenna via Fuorcla Cornet, always with a view over the Lai da Rims below us. A steep path leads down to S-charl, with an overnight stay at the Hotel Mayor and a dinner featuring local game.

More like Pakistan than Engadin
The grand finale takes us up the lovely Val Mingèr through the Swiss National Park. In early October, deer graze here; with a bit of luck, vultures and eagles will be circling in the sky. Over the Sur il Foss pass, we descend into the Val Plavna, a surreal valley, and arrive finally at Tarasp.

What a journey this autumn hike is.
